   With a Nordstrom order and no garment industry experience, I drove the back alleys of Orange County office parks looking for open doors and the sound of sewing machines. As a designer, you are only as good as your resources and your vendors.
3. Why you should start small.
   The bigger you let your dream get in your head, the heavier it feels. Start one vendor at a time and things start to move.
4. The lesson I wish I had learned sooner.
   Put down the ego and listen to the customer who is about to hand you $50 or $100. That shift is when you grow up as a business owner.
5. Slow sales might be a visibility problem.
   The night my Billion Dollar Buyer episode aired, we brought in around $25,000 on our website. Before you plan another sale or a new style, ask whether the right people have seen what you already have.
